Back to the Channel Islands

Or at least a trip to Guernsey

Cobo Bay

Having had a great holiday in Jersey in the year before the Covid lockdown, my Mum and I decided to go to Guernsey this year.

We stayed in Cobo Bay at a hotel this time rather than self-catering. It was a nice room and the hotel was just across from the beach. There was a good breakfast every morning and we ate there a couple of times.

Guernsey is smaller than Jersey and we had a hire car which meant we saw lots of the island including going to several beaches. I thought the water was quite cold at first but did go swimming in the sea several times. We particularly liked Ladies Bay and there was a small playground there too. Port Soif Bay was also nice but it had lots of jelly fish, so no swimming there! We also walked around some of the coastline which was very pretty.

We visited the underground tunnels built during WW2 as well as a museum about the occupation which taught me a lot about WW2 which is good as I think I study that at school this year.

There are plenty of activities for children and we played golf at Pirate Bay golf, as well as trying all the activities at Oaty and Joeys Barn, which has mini ten pin bowling, soft play, trampolines, as well as two mini golf courses. The Little Chapel was worth visiting and we also spent time in St Peter Port.

One day we took the boat to Sark and hired bicycles which was fun. The island is very small and we cycled all round it. It was good fun though my Mum looked quite red in the face.

Guernsey was not as busy as Jersey and the speed limit was 35mph. We managed to fit a lot into the week and I enjoyed our time. The only downside was losing our luggage on the way home but it did arrive a week later.
